A human rights advocacy group, The Critical Thinkers, has urged the coroner’s court to order a forensic review of phone records belonging to all individuals around the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, within the 48 hours leading up to his death.

Contradictions in Medical Accounts Raise Questions

Bart expressed concern over conflicting statements given by medical personnel and Mohbad’s close associates, particularly regarding the exact time and circumstances of the singer’s death.

During the last sitting of the inquest, Dr. Chigozie Iwuala of Perez Medicare Hospital testified that Mohbad was brought in dead and had likely been deceased for over three hours prior to arrival. The doctor also stated that Mohbad’s body was doused with water, allegedly in an attempt to mask early signs of death such as body stiffness and coldness.

This account sharply contradicts a claim made by Mohbad’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, during an appearance on TVC’s Your View. She asserted that Mohbad died within 20 minutes of arriving at the hospital on September 12, 2023.

Hospitals, Witnesses Missing at Inquest

Bart also criticized the absence of key parties during the inquest’s latest session. While Perez Medicare’s doctor and the driver, Fiselis Esenbor, who took Mohbad to his final performance in Ikorodu, were present, Curamed Hospital—the first hospital Mohbad was allegedly taken to—was notably absent.

“The public expected both hospitals to testify, but only Perez was represented. This is troubling, especially as Perez claims Mohbad was already dead on arrival,” Bart stated.

According to Dr. Iwuala’s testimony, CCTV footage exists showing how Mohbad was brought into the facility. The hospital subsequently issued a report and advised that the body be taken to a mortuary.

Discrepancies in Timeline of Death

The driver, Esenbor, told the court he received a call around noon on September 12 notifying him of Mohbad’s death. This further complicates the timeline, suggesting a discrepancy between when the singer may have died and when he was taken to the hospital.

“These conflicting narratives raise serious questions about the exact time and cause of Mohbad’s death,” Bart added.

Fresh Calls for Accountability and Testimonies

The group has now called on Curamed Hospital to appear at the next inquest session, scheduled for April 25, 2025. According to The Critical Thinkers, the hospital’s firsthand account, medical records, and CCTV footage are essential for establishing the facts.

While acknowledging that the attending doctor at Curamed is no longer employed there, the group emphasized that the facility still bears the responsibility to submit relevant documentation.

“We urge the coroner’s court to compel a forensic analysis of the phone records of everyone who was around Mohbad during the critical 48-hour period before his death. This will help unravel the truth,” the statement concluded.
