“No politician can win without Northern support,” says ex-presidential aide
As political conversations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Northern Elders Forum spokesperson and ex-Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Political Matters, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has declared that the North will play a decisive role in determining Nigeria’s next president.
In a viral video interview with Prof. Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Baba-Ahmed revealed that the region will publicly declare its political direction within the next six months.
“No politician can become President of Nigeria without the support of the North,” Baba-Ahmed stated emphatically. “The region will decide its path, and others can choose to align—or not.”
The North Has Suffered Enough, Says Baba-Ahmed
Baba-Ahmed highlighted the immense challenges the North has faced—especially insecurity from Boko Haram and other insurgent groups—which have affected people across ethnic and religious lines.
“We want a government that understands our problems and is ready to solve them,” he said. “Our people are more politically aware now. We won’t fall for cheap propaganda or divisive tactics anymore.”
He also stressed that the North would no longer tolerate marginalization, warning of serious national consequences if the region continues to be sidelined.
“If they plan to rig the election, they should be careful. It won’t be good for Nigeria,” he cautioned, issuing a firm warning to political actors.
Equity, Justice, and the North’s Patience Wearing Thin
The former presidential aide said the patience of the North is running out, as more elders, youth groups, and interest blocs prepare to speak out in unison.
“The North is watching. Our people will soon say enough is enough,” he said.
“Politicians must start treating the region with respect and fairness. The 2027 elections cannot be won without us.”
📌 As the countdown to 2027 begins, all eyes are on the North—poised, vocal, and determined to shape the future of Nigeria’s democracy.
